My day started off at 4:30AM with an annoying alarm clock. I was to meet Robert Bills and good friends, Larry and Ruth-Anne Marks in Santa Ana so that we could caravan an hour south to Carlsbad, California. Although the forecast was overcast and a chance of rain, that didn't deter about 150 people from going to the car show. It did rain for about an hour and a half, but by 1PM, the sun came out and it was nice!
I quickly spot Lee Hedges with his beautiful Ruby-Red T-34 Convertible in the Showroom.
Then Pedro motors in with his new accessory... the Pedro-Trailer!!
We took a minute to snap a 1500 Club picture
(notice the mascot to the left)
Other notable Type-3 cars were Jaime Flores and his gorgeous 1969 Squareback
Juan Gutierrez's 1965 Notch
... and Rodger Marcks' very nice '67 Type-3 Ghia
... and lastly, my '64 Ghia
For some reason, I forgot to take pictures of Robert Bills' superb late-model Squareback... my humble apologies. His car is probably the nicest late-model Type-3 I have ever seen!
On our way back, Bob Bills suggested we stop at the best BBQ joint in Orange County called Scotties Smokehouse. Not too many things can top a tangy Bar-B-Que and a 22 ounce ice-cold beer after an hour driving in an old VW... so I had a couple =)
Lastly, Lee Hedges posted a few more pics in the Forum.
